Phase 1 is a used Risograph and bindery for school textbook production, with Hôpital Sacré Coeur in Milot as the anchor off-take buyer.
Konbit Press is a cooperative micro-printing and paper-production enterprise. It serves three purposes: it produces the BARSS Almanac (the flagship content product), it provides print services to NGOs, schools, and community organizations that currently pay PAP rates for everything, and it eventually produces paper from bagasse (sugarcane agricultural waste), removing Haiti's paper import dependency from one more supply chain.
The three-phase build makes Phase 1 immediately fundable. At $8,000 for a used Risograph duplicator and basic bindery equipment, Phase 1 fits as a single line item in the CSJP $150,000 renewal. HSC (Historical Society of Cap-Haïtien, adjacent to the Milot/SAKALA primary site) is the anchor off-take buyer for Phase 1 school textbook production.
| Phase | Capital Required | Workers | Annual Revenue | Annual Net | Worker Income/yr |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 (Y1) — Print Shop | $8,000 | 3 | $14,800 | $4,300 | $1,433 |
| Phase 2 (Y2) — Bagasse Paper | $22,000 add'l | 7 | $21,120 | ($1,380) | $1,500 |
| Phase 3 (Y3-4) — Full Micro-Mill | $55,000 add'l | 12 | $91,200 | $44,000 | $5,750 |
$5,750 per year for a cooperative printing worker in Haiti is 3.2 times the Haiti median income. The micro-mill at full capacity produces 200-300 kilograms per day of paper from bagasse feedstock -- an agricultural waste product that Haitian sugarcane processors currently burn or dump at zero value. The feedstock cost is transport only.
The BARSS Almanac: The flagship publication is a yearly compendium of BARSS research, Konbit program results, and data portraits from the Aesthetic Empiricism tradition. Content-ready. The Almanac is the print program's credibility vehicle and its highest-margin unit: 400 copies at $18 per copy equals $7,200 annual revenue from a single title, printed on in-house equipment, with content that costs nothing to produce because it is research that BARSS generates regardless.
